First Pillar
In the early days of building Balgram at Gevrai, Beed District (Maharashtra), we had received generous support in the form of 3 acre land from a few kind donors – Shri. Harish Jakhete, Shri. Sushil Pipada, Shri. Mahendra Jakhete. But there were no buildings yet — only a dream to create a safe and loving home for children in need.
That dream began to take shape in 2011, when the very first building on this land was constructed — a generous and humble contribution from NEXT Furniture Solution, led by Shri Ranjeet Kakkad. This 4000 sq ft structure came with bunk beds, giving nearly 100 children a warm and secure place to stay and begin their new life with dignity and hope. At the time, the building was handed over quietly, without any ceremony or name.
Years later, on 19th March 2022, the building was named Gurumohan Balbhavan in loving memory of Ranjeet ji’s late father, Shri Guru Mohan Prasad Kakkad, who passed away in 2022. The name honours both a father’s legacy and the spirit of giving that helped shape this home.
Since 2010, the Kakkad family has stayed deeply connected to Balgram — not just as donors, but as extended family to our children. Shrimati Shobha Devi (Ranjeet ji’s mother), Dr. Aparna Kakkad (his wife), and other family members have often visited to cook and serve meals during festivals. These visits are full of love, laughter, and togetherness — you can see the joy in the faces of our children in the pictures we’ve shared here.
His son, Om, has also grown up with Balgram in his heart. He now teaches basic computer skills to our 8th and 9th grade students through online sessions. Despite the challenges of poor internet in our rural area, Om continues his efforts with patience and commitment — helping bridge a critical gap, as we had computers but no dedicated teacher.
Om, along with his cousins and their music teacher, has also joined us during festivals like Diwali, playing music, singing songs, and creating beautiful memories with the children. Their presence brings warmth and smiles that linger long after they leave.
This is the story of a small beginning — a single building that became the first pillar of Balgram. Today, with the blessings of many more donors, new buildings have come up and our family has grown to over 100 children.
We remain ever grateful to the Kakkad family and to everyone who has walked this path with us. Together, we continue to build not just structures, but a future full of care, learning, and love.
